Read the "What's at Stake" feature in the chapter.
Take a position: Where do you stand on oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge?
As you develop your argument, answer the following questions:
- Why do supporters of drilling believe that drilling is needed? What benefits do they believe will come from it? Why do they think that opponents' concerns are misguided?
- What is the central concern of drilling opponents? How do they respond to the opposition's arguments? What is their solution to relying less on foreign oil?
